Circa 1958: "When the Prime Minister of India, Jawaharlal Nehru, called for a national celebration of the singer's [Paul Robeson] birthday, the united states tried unsuccessfully to pressure his government to cancel the event".
(p157 of Manning Marable's book: Malcolm X: A Life of Reinvention)
Paul Robeson is along with Robert F Williams perhaps one of the most ignored but most important revolutionaries of the Black Liberation Socialist Movement in the usa. Robeson was one of the the greatest human beings I have ever come across. Some great quotes from Robeson here.
